Great Lakes University of Kisumu has experienced one of the Best graduation ceremony ever held over the years. This event was graced by several dignitaries among them being Mama Ida Odinga who was the chief guest and Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o who is the chancellor of the University.
At Friday 19th November 2021’s ceremony where over 600 students were awarded degrees and certificates, the governor also officially installed Prof Hazel Miseda who took over from November 2020.
“Notwithstanding the difficult times it went through recently, we are proud of the bold steps the new VC and her team has taken to make GLUK move on,” said the governor.
During the graduation ceremony, the governor announced that the county government had partnered with an American-based company to put up a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm at the institution.
He said that the new firm will be equipped with the latest world class technology in pharma manufacturing to benefit the health sector.
“We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Med Aditus Limited to establish a state of the art pharmaceutical industry at GLUK whose construction will begin in September 2022,” said the governor.
“The new infrastructure will also create jobs for the graduates, which will ultimately translate into an overall economic growth,” he stated.
“I thank the university’s new VC Professor Miseda for allowing the institution to take part in this programme which will also enable the students secure attachment opportunities and exposure,” he said.
Dr Ida Odinga promised to partner with the school in various development projects to improve the university infrastructure which she said did not have enough facilities.
“I came with a team of individuals who are more than willing to partner with the institution, which was once my school, to see it move to the next level,” she said.
