GLUK Hosts Delegation from Nairobi Hospital College of Health Sciences and County Leadership


Great Lakes University of Kisumu today hosted a high-level delegation from the Nairobi Hospital College of Health Sciences, led by Board Member Representative, Mr. Erick Okeyo, alongside the Principal, Dr. Margaret Sirima. The visit focused on exploring strategic collaboration as the College advances its plans to transition into a fully-fledged university.

During the engagement, Dr. Sirima expressed the College’s strong interest in establishing a partnership with Great Lakes University of Kisumu, particularly in areas of institutional development, academic programming, and capacity building aligned with university status requirements.

The leadership of Great Lakes University of Kisumu was headed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hazel Miseda Mumbo, who was flanked by her two Deputy Vice-Chancellors and members of the University Management Board.

The delegation was subsequently joined by the Governor of Kisumu County, Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, accompanied by the County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Education, Mr. John Awiti.

In his remarks, Governor Nyong’o commended Great Lakes University of Kisumu for its strong development trajectory and notable achievements, observing that the University is well-positioned to rank among leading private universities globally if the current momentum is sustained.

The Chancellor also underscored his commitment to the University’s academic growth, indicating plans to relocate his personal library to Great Lakes University of Kisumu and expressing interest in undertaking lecturing responsibilities.

Further, Mr. Awiti emphasized the urgent need for teacher retraining within the County. He noted that the Department of Education would collaborate with the Vice-Chancellor to position Great Lakes University of Kisumu as a lead institution in the continuous professional development and upskilling of teachers across Kisumu County.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor reported that Great Lakes University of Kisumu has made a strategic investment in Med Aditus, acquiring shares valued at USD 50,000. This investment is expected to strengthen the University’s positioning in health sciences, innovation, and industry-linked training, while opening up opportunities for collaborative research, digital health solutions, and experiential learning for students.
